Biography
Prof. Dr. med. Dr. hc Roland Hetzer is the founding director of the German Heart Center Berlin, which under his leadership has achieved an international top position. So many heart transplants have been carried out by the German Heart Center Berlin since its opening in 1989. Most of the operations were done by Prof. Roland Hetzer himself. A special hallmark of Roland Hetzer was cardiac surgery for high-risk patients such as infants and the elderly. As one of Germany's leading cardiac surgeons, Hetzer has introduced numerous new treatments, including aortic valve relocation in the case of aortic insufficiency and aortic ascending aneurysm , aortic root remodeling in Marfan syndrome with aortic root aneurysm or the establishment of hybrid surgery in Berlin high-risk patients. Prof Hetzer is an emeritus professor now. Even at the age of 70, He does not want to say goodbye to his retirement: "I'm going on, and there's no such thing as a successor."
